Built at the beginning of the 14th Century, the Château de Mons, situated a few kilometers from the market town of Arlanc, was rebuilt in the 17th Century in the style of a Medici villa, then renovated in the 19th Century in the taste of "Viollet-le-Duc". It houses vast rooms being renovated in this style.

The Château de Mons is composed of a particularly majestic entrance hall, with a monumental staircase, and the ceiling (10 meters high) is decorated with an enormous painting by the Italian artist Dedominicci.

The grand reception room is impressive in both its size and ceiling height (nearly 5 meters). The ceilings are in the French style ; a Versailles parquet and internal shutters accentuate the majesty of the place. The room is lit up by 6 large openings on both sides.

The "Henri 4th" room contains an enormous fireplace made of carved wood and decorated with an imposing terracota medallion representing this popular king, signed by Gossin.

Visits to the Château can be arranged in small groups : the history of the building is presented, especially the period of King Henri 4th. Also, the collection of the owners engravings/lithographs (16th to 18th Century) will be shown at the same time as the evolution of the arts and technics of this field.

The Château de Mons is part of the network of the Historic Residences, the Route des Châteaux d’Auvergne, the Route des Métiers and also the Jardins du Massif Central.

Guided visits from 15th June to 15th September, every day at 1.30pm, 3pm, 4.30pm and 6pm.
