Le Pays d’Ambert

This old city has given its name to a cheese well known throughout the world, the "Fourme d’Ambert".

A town where its history is around every corner… Climb up the Bell tower of the Church of Saint-Jean (55 meters) and you will discover the historic centre with its half-timbered houses, the square "des Minimes" and the roof of the Mandarin Tower, refuge of the celebrated smuggler. You will see to the southwest, the roof of the "Round Mairie", unique in Europe…

Jump on the Train of discovery AGRIVAP and explore the richness of the Livradois-Forez by rail.

Ambert was also the birthplace of the French paper industry. You can learn about this process still today by visiting the papermill "Moulin Richard de Bas"…
